Listen to Obituary

Gary Lee Proulx, 72, of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at Ellis Hospital, following a long battle with pneumonia that began on December 24, 2025.

Born on June 22, 1953, in Tupper Lake, NY, Gary was the first child of the late Leroy R. Proulx and Shirley (Vaillancourt) Proulx.

Gary faced life with joy and resilience. Though born with developmental challenges, he never allowed them to define him. His bright spirit, warm heart, and infectious laughter touched everyone he met. Gary treasured his many friends and caregivers, whom he loved like family. He especially enjoyed singing and dancing to the oldies - music brought him immense happiness. Even during his illness and hospital stays, Gary continued to sing, smile, and bring laughter to those around him.

Gary is survived by his loving brothers: Richard Proulx of Cocoa Beach, FL; Mitchell (Terri) Proulx of Schenectady, NY; and Jamie (Debbie) Proulx of Duanesburg, NY, and brother in law Mark Lyons. He is also survived by 13 cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Proulx Lyons; his beloved uncle, Richard Vaillancourt; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Glindmyer Proulx.

Family and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. A funeral service will begin at 7pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s memory to a charity of your choice.
