Listen to Obituary

Gaile Elizabeth (Kerr) Sharpe passed from this life on Thursday, March 19, following a short illness. Born in Lowville, NY, on October 25, 1948, to Elizabeth (Lauber) Kerr and Randolph E. Kerr, Gaile attended the General Martin School in Glenfield and Canton High School in Canton, NY; she graduated in 1966 from Guilderland Central High School in Guilderland, NY. Gaile recounted many fond memories from her school days, especially of her friends and times in Canton. Gaile graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1970 with a degree in Elementary Education and later taught in schools in Greig and Delmar, NY, and in London, England. Gaile’s love for children was profound.

Gaile spent a long career helping others, primarily in caring for disabled children and adults, but also in nannying and in-home caregiving. She had a deep love for God, a Christian faith, and was most recently a regular attendee at Grace Fellowship Church in Latham, NY, where she found lasting friendships. Gaile was much loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Gaile is predeceased by her parents, Randy and Liz Kerr of Greig, NY. She is survived by her former husband, Roger Sharpe of Kings Langley, England; sister Lynne Small; brothers Randy (Cindy), Kevin (Susan), and Michael (Lisa) Kerr; nieces and nephews David (Dee) Hughes, Jennifer Hughes, Randy (Sue) Kerr III, Ian Kerr, Maureen (Rick) Grisolini, Lauren (Andrew) Ugalde, Pegeen Kerr, Rosemary Kerr, and Alexander Kerr; grandnieces and nephews, Marissa (Andrew) Dalbey, Cameron Hughes, Moira Roberts, Finnley Kerr, Jackson Kerr, and Arielle Wright; and great-grandnephew Parker Dalbey.

A private funeral service will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy-Schenectady Road, in Watervliet, NY. Interment will be at Old Glendale Cemetery in Glenfield, NY, later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Gaile’s name.
