Gail Ann "Self" Price, 55, passed away peacefully at her home in Albany, New York, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Born on December 20, 1969, in Albany, she was the beloved daughter of the late James Edward Price and Betsy Ann Price (née Brown).
Gail, affectionately known as "Self"—a name lovingly given to her by her late brother Wayne (Ishmiel) Price—was known for her confidence, strength, and unwavering sense of self. Outspoken and fiercely loyal, she never hesitated to stand up for what she believed in, embodying the spirit of her nickname in every aspect of her life.
A graduate of Albany High School, Gail began her professional journey at the Legal Aid Society in downtown Albany, where she worked as a Legal Assistant for over a decade. Later, seeking a new path, she transitioned into the airline industry and worked for Southwest Airlines as a Customer Service and Sales Associate, where she continued to serve others with dedication and care.
Gail is survived by her loving children: Namel Newsome and his fiancée Elizabeth (Liz) Watson of Albany; Tashan Newsome of Atlanta, Georgia; and Tayonna Speight of Albany. She was a devoted grandmother to two cherished granddaughters, Melaya and Lizaria, both of Albany.
She is also survived by her siblings: Melinda Gumbs (Price/Murphy), Michael Price, and Lisa Pearson (Price), all of Albany; and by her nephews Romar Murphy and Jacier Pearson.
Gail was predeceased by her parents, James and Betsy Price; her brother, Wayne E. Price (Ishmiel); and her nephew, Ishmiel Price.
Gail’s life was marked by love, resilience, and a deep connection to her family and community. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
