Albany, NY - Fred Emmons passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2025. He was born in Albany on March 29, 1933 to the late Chauncey and Ruth Emmons.
After serving in the Air Force in Alaska , he returned to Albany where he met the love of his life, Marcia.
He worked at Tobin Packing Company in Albany until the plant closed in 1981. After which, he spent many years traveling with his son David and later his grandson Maxson working at craft shows throughout the US.
Fred loved to work and rarely sat still. He loved to bowl, shoot pool (and maybe hustle a little), loved golf and was the (self-declared) best driver on the road. He loved yelling at the tv and always stood up for the underdog. He stayed sharp and competitive maintaining over 70 games of Words with Friends to the very last minute. He loved his family more than anything and was especially thrilled to live to see his three great grandchildren.
His marriage of 67 years to his wife Marcia was built on love and humor. They were both a model of lasting love and a comedy show that we will all miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents Chauncey and Ruth, his brother Chauncey, his in-laws Thomas and Alice , his brother in law William, and sister in law Dianne.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife Marcia, his children and their spouses, Diane and Robert Yoder, Niskayuna, NY, David and Janet Emmons, Wells, VT, Tracie and John Dott, Colonie, NY, Kim and Paul Garcelon, Guilderland NY, Kristine and Chris Gallagher, Bloomfield CT as well as his grandchildren and their partners: Jacklyn Dott and Matt Knowles, Maxson and Nicole Emmons, Rachael Yoder and Michael Herman, Alicia and Brandon Jemmott, Nicole Garcelon, Brandon Garcelon, Kara and Cameron Terenzetti-Dott, Harrison Yoder, Katie Emmons, Abbie Emmons and Ashlee Garcelon. And his beloved great grandchildren: Forrest Jemmott, Novalee Garcelon and Julian Terenzetti-Dott. He is also survived by his four legged buddy, Alice, who was always there with kisses and comfort.
The family would like to thank his hospice nurses Gail and Lori who are truly angels walking on this earth. The care and compassion they showed both Fred and Marcia went beyond any written job description.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Fred’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Outer Loop Theater Experience for their arts and humanitarian work in Tanzania https://www.paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/2148119
