Frank Serrano, 51, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Strong
Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, surrounded by his family. Frank was born on
September 26, 1965 in the Bronx. He was the son of Neida Roldan and the late
Carmelo Serrano. Frank attended John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx
where he played baseball. Throughout his career and life, Frank was well known
for his extreme passion for cooking, singing, music, boxing, dance and cars. He
loved to share wisdom and was looked up to and respected by many.
As a youth, he was very proud to live through and be a part of the hip-hop, break
dance cultural movement originating in the Bronx. In April 2011, Frank's pride in
his "Nuyorican" heritage led him to establish the Facebook family group B.D.P,
(Boriquas Don't Play). B.D.P is an online community created to unite all Puerto
Ricans worldwide via social media with the goal of promoting positive living,
loyalty, love and respect for one another. B.D.P has grown to almost 300
members. Frank will always be remembered for his amazing smile, sense of humor
and his resilient attitude in the face of difficulty.
16 years ago, Frank was told by doctors that he had one year left to live. Frank's
life was a living testimony of hope and strength to those who knew him. He simply
refused to give up.
Frank,"Pops" is survived by his children: Dha'Sean Serrano, Christian Serrano,
Julian Serrano, Matthew Serrano, Justice Serrano and Diamond Serrano; step
children: Jakai Townsend, Wilfredo Morales, Tianah Morales, Carissa Colon, Pito
Colon, Jazmin Colon; grandchildren: Javier Serrano, Braylee Serrano, and step
grandchildren: Nayheli Colon, Junior Colon, Ahlyana Cook, Aniela Morales and
Janayah Ditoro-Morales.
Frank is additionally survived by his fiancé Doreen Roldan, and siblings: Albert
Serrano, Denise (Lillian) Serrano, Jeffrey (Kelly) Roman, Eric Roman and
predeceased by Anthony Serrano.
He will be lovingly missed by many nieces and nephews as well.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road,
Colonie, NY 12205 on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Burial service immediately to follow at Park View Cemetery in Schenectady.
In honor of "Da Chosen One", and to commemorate Frank's love for his Puerto
Rican heritage, you are welcome and encouraged to wear something red, white and
blue.
