Francis Joseph McGinty, a longtime resident of Rotterdam, was surrounded by his family and friends when he peacefully drifted off to be with the Lord while at Ellis Hospital. Frank was 72 years old. Frank touched the lives of many people and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
Frank was born and raised in Albany. He was the second of four children of John Joseph and Helen Frances McGinty.
Frank attended St. Patrick's Institute. He was an altar boy for the adjoining St. Patrick's Church, where he often volunteered to serve at funerals to get out of class. He later would go on to attend Christian Brothers Academy.
Frank joined the United States Navy in 1962 as a crew member of the U.S.S. Mauna Loa serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Navy, Frank joined the Niagara Mohawk team in the gas department.
Frank was predeceased by his father John Joseph, beloved mother Helen (Sheeran) McGinty, grandmother Jane O'Connor Sheeran, aunt Elizabeth Sheeran, father-in-law Irvin Picard, sisters-in-law Mary Theresa McGinty and Mary Pariseau and his loving canine companion Duchess Poe.
Frank is survived by his cherished wife of 46 years Cherin Ann (Picard) and four daughters; Sabrina McGinty, Christine McGinty, Kathleen (August) Hoppes, Michelle (Daniel) Miller and his honorary daughter Serena Myers. His devoted older sister Nancy (Sr. Jean Marie) McGinty, his partner in crime and sister Mary Ellen (Peter) Snyder, and his best friend and brother Sean (Mary) McGinty. Frank is also survived by his five grandchildren whom he adored; Rayne Miller, Chad Miller, Ethan Hoppes, Liam Hoppes and Owen Hoppes and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Frank enjoyed spending his time camping, fishing, listening to doo-wop music, vintage cars, and enjoying the company of friends.
His employment at Niagara Mohawk introduced him to lifelong friends Mr. Frank DeSarbo, Mr. Enrico (Muzzy) Bianchi and his wife Mrs. Mary Francis (Bonnie) Bianchi. Also his dear friends Bill and Judy Becker. His relationship with his friends and their families often led to mad-capped adventures that could have been made into a TV sitcom.
