Glenville- Florence (Vi) Gates, 89, passed away on Saturday April 18, 2015 quietly at home surrounded by her loving family.
Vi was a devoted wife of the late Lawrence Gates, Sr. She is survived by her sons Lawrence Gates, Jr. and Thomas Gates (Wenhui Zhu), granddaughters Faith Ackerley, Carrie Schloth (Art Schloth), Stephanie Weinlein (Gary Weinlein), great-grandchildren Michael Ackerley, Gregory Ackerley, Katherine Schloth, Alexander Schloth, Adelyn Weinlein, Benjamin Weinlein, and great great granddaughter Abigail Ackerley.
Vi had wide and varied interests from sewing and painting to world travel. She spent 14 years on the coast of Florida enjoying the sunshine, learning to sail, making new friends and beach combing. Vi also enjoyed cooking at home, playing piano, learning new on-line games and spending time with family.
Vi was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose positive attitude was appreciated by all who knew her. She spent many years assisting her husband with his real estate business and later retired from the Town of Colonie. During this time she found time to raise her family and pets and did so with grace and selflessness. Her life touched the heart and influenced the lives of many.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Colonie. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet at 9:15 am in front of the cemetery office. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Visiting Nurse Foundation, 108 Erie Blvd., Schenectady, NY 12308 in Vi's name.
