Flora St. Leger , 87, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
Flora was the daughter of the late Francisco Fernandez and Carmen (Simal) Fernandez, who emigrated from Spain to the U.S. She was one of three sisters along with the late Lina Gurtowski and Pola Fernandez, her twin.
She was the wife of the late John "Jack" St. Leger.
Flora led a life of great tenacity that was dedicated to raising her children and supporting all their various endeavors. Flora enjoyed spending time gardening, "garage-saleing", crafting, and loved cooking and baking for her entire family. She was a great animal lover who was known to bring home stray cats and adopt them as her own. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Flora is survived by her sister Pola Fernandez, her children: Joan (Tom) Speziale, Frank (Elizabeth Demers) St. Leger, Jim (Audrey) St. Leger, Judy (Marc Kratzschmar) St. Leger, John (Shelley) St. Leger, Jennifer (David) Carlin, her grandchildren: Joshua (Jamie), Thomas (Danielle), Sam, Jackie, Nicholas, Schuyler, Lauren, and James, and her great grandchildren: Luke, Ruth, Eden, Anna, Kinsley, and Canaan.
She is also survived by her cousin Avelina Miguel, her niece Stephanie Gehrig, and her nephew Stephen Gurtowski.
A memorial service will be on held Thursday May 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
