Eve J. Horbat

Eve Horbat, 75, of Loudonville, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2025. She bravely faced her illness with her usual grace, determination, and resilience.

Born in Siedlce, Poland, Eve was the daughter of the late Sophie and Theodore Horbat. Eve emigrated with her parents from Poland to the United States as a young child. They first lived in NYC, before settling in upstate NY when her father secured a teaching position at Hudson Valley Community College.

Eve was a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and began her nursing career working in hospitals. Thereafter, for over 30 years, she worked at the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. Eve was kind, compassionate, and caring, and loved working in the community helping people with disabilities.

Most of all, Eve cherished her role as Mom to her daughter Celina, who she adopted from China as an infant. Eve was a devoted, loving mother who raised her daughter to be strong, independent, and adventurous. Eve was immensely proud of her daughter’s many accomplishments and grateful for Celina’s loving care during her illness. Their days were always brightened by the companionship of their dog, Harvey.

Eve was an avid reader, participating in multiple book clubs, and active with weekly chair yoga. She was a compassionate advocate for equity and inclusion, values that greatly influenced her work, relationships, and worldview.

Eve is survived by her beloved daughter, Celina, and their dog, Harvey. Friends may call, Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our Light, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, NY, with a Mass of Christian Burial to immediately follow. Interment will take place at a later date.

Hospice greatly assisted Eve’s family in supporting her with dignity and love at the end of her life’s journey. Their help was much appreciated in addition to the support from her loved ones.
