Esther "Patty" Brown

Esther “Patty” Brown was born on October 2, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, but made Albany, NY, her home. The beloved daughter of the late Ethel L. Epps, Esther carried with her the values of strength, perseverance, faith, and family. Throughout life’s joys and challenges, she continued to move forward with determination, drawing strength from her faith, her family, and the lessons passed down by her mother.

Faith and music were at the heart of Esther’s life. As a member of Israel A.M.E. Church in Albany, NY, she shared her gift of singing as a member of the choir. From childhood through her final days, singing remained an important part of who she was. Her voice brought her strength and comfort while uplifting those fortunate enough to hear it.

At the center of Esther’s life was her only son, Craig Stratton (Lisa), whom she deeply cherished and took tremendous pride in. She was his mother, teacher, and protector, preparing him to navigate a world that was not always easy or fair. Esther also cherished her granddaughter, Alexis Stratton. She leaves to honor her memory her sister, Beverly Knight (the late Joe Knight); nieces Kahina Kornegay (Lewis) and Ayanna Knight; nephew Joshua Knight; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and other extended family members and loved ones.

During Esther’s illness and final journey, she was surrounded by love and care. Lisa Stratton, Craig’s wife, provided tremendous support and assistance throughout Esther’s illness and final days. The family also extends heartfelt appreciation to Nylah Stratton, who, though not yet a teenager, understood the importance of compassion, kindness, and helping someone in need. Special gratitude is also extended to Rebecca Provost and Christan Lenney for their guidance and assistance with Esther’s care. A special thank you is also extended to her church family, including Linda Mallory and others, for their love and support.

On September 7, 2026, Esther completed her earthly journey. Her legacy lives on through the son she raised, the granddaughter she loved, and the family she cherished. Esther “Patty” Brown will be remembered not simply for how she left this world, but for how she lived, loved, and persevered. Rest peacefully, Esther. Your lessons remain, your voice will be remembered, and your love will live on.
