Ernst Stroebel

January 10, 1935 — March 18, 2016

With angel wings unfurled and wrapped tightly around her Son, Ernie's Mama came down on March 18, 2016 to bring him home to heaven to be with her, his Pop and those he loved. He will now be at peace and watching over his beloved family here on earth.

Ernie was born in Manhattan, NYC to Ernst & Emma Stroebel on January 10, 1935.

He was educated in NYC and graduated from City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1957. He then moved to Albany where he joined the NYS Department of Health, Division of Laboratories & Research as a Bacteriologist. He retired from the Health Department in April 1995.

He was very active in the Civil Service and was the Health Department Chapter President for over 10 years. He served on the CSEA's Board of Directors representing all Health Department employees Statewide for eight years. He was appointed to the PS&T Negotiating Committee and served as Secretary and Chairman of the Team for three contract negotiations.

In August 1963 he married Carol Ann Stewart and they were blessed with three wonderful children: Christine duToit (Andre'), Karen Stroebel (Freddie) and Jon Stroebel (Kristen). He was then blessed with two beautiful Granddaughters Taylor and Madison Stroebel. He loved his family more than anything else and he would tell anyone who would listen.

Ernie loved his summer home in the Adirondacks fishing in the East Branch of the Ausable River and collecting German Stamps. (We found them Dad!)

Most recently, after 50 years, he reconnected with his younger cousin, Kurt Stroebel and his wife Gerlinde. They came to America and had a wonderful family reunion. Ernie also found out that he had more family members as Kurt & Gerlinde have two daughters Katrin Hau (Tobias) and two Granddaughters Amelie and Charlotte. His younger daughter, Dorothee, is getting married in August 2016 to Stefan Dietz. He also had the pleasure to meet Dorothee & Stefan in 2015. He was very happy and proud for the opportunity to reunite with his German family and it happened with a letter sent from Germany.

Ernst & Carol are also members of the Thunder Road Seniors and were active in the German Club there. Ernst felt a wonderful connection with the German group, especially with Ilse who leads the class. Ernst is a Life Member of the West Albany Rod & Gun Club, AARP, Colonie Elks Lodge 2192, RPEA, and the 210th Armor Division . He was A member of the Civil Air Patrol (Auxiliary of the US Air Force) and attained the rank of Major. He served as the Finance Officer for the Troy Composite Squadron as well as the NYS Mid Eastern Group for many, many years.

Ernst honorably served his Country in the US Army from 1959-1965 with the NY National Guard, 210th Armor Battalion where he was the Supply Sgt. For "A" Company. He was honorably discharged in 1965.

The Stroebel Family wants to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the Albany Hospice And Palliative Care Teams led by Doris & Gayle. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations sent to Albany Community Hospice.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, March 23rd from 4-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie. A service will immediately follow.
