Listen to Obituary

Ernest Allen Koglmeier was called home to our Lord on October 28, 2026. He was born November 14, 1931, the youngest of six children, to Selma and George Koglmeier in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Ernie was educated in Aberdeen and Milbank, South Dakota schools, graduating from Milbank High School in 1950. He honorably served in the United States Navy from 1951-1955, completing service as a Petty Officer 2nd Class. He completed his education at St. John’s University, NY, with a degree in Business Administration. His work history included major corporations, higher education and the creation and development of a very successful building management business.

Ernie met his sweetheart, Marilyn, on February 7, 1953, while serving in the Navy. They met at a USO dance in New York City, the first and only USO dance either attended. They were married January 8, 1955, at St. Mary Magdelene Church in Springfield Gardens, NY. They became the parents of five wonderful children; Allan (Nancy), Jeanne Muffler (Robert), Donald, Eileen Fuest (John), Mary Elizabeth Dufort (Mark). They were blessed with fourteen grandchildren: Kristin (Chad), Erin (Jeff), H. John (Vicki), Chandler (Elyse), Kevin, Ashley (Jason), Ceara (Bradley), Chelsea (Max), Sarah, Stephanie (Jordan), Stephen (Jordan), Brendan (Allison), George, Mary Kate (Cristian). They have been doubly blessed with 29 great-grandchildren: Odin, Soren, Axel, Mel, Erica, Colin, Carter, Mason, Jay, Maryn, Charlotte, Sadie, Stella, Jason, John, Killian, Aislin, Bode, Henry, Ada, Luke, Cooper, Henry, Amelia, Penelope, Benjamin, Elliott, Marilyn and Atreus.

Ernie and Marilyn lived in Queens and Newburgh, NY, before moving to Cazenovia where they lived for 46 years before moving to Watervliet, NY in 2016. During those years, he was a member of the Cazenovia School Board, a member of the Town of Cazenovia Board of Appeals, and a volunteer cook at Unity Kitchen for 20 plus years. Ernie was a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. James Church in Cazenovia where he also served on the Finance Committee and taught Religious Education. Ernie was an EMT at the local volunteer ambulance corps, CAVAC, a member and officer of the Starlite Dance Club, a Board member of the Cazenovia Golf Club, and a member of the Willow Bank Yacht Club.

Ernie was a gifted songster and whistler, had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He loved his Lord, his bride and best friend Marilyn, his family, and cared for everyone he met. After that, he loved hunting, fishing, golfing and Big East Basketball, especially St. John’s.

Ernie was predeceased in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn, his parents, Selma and George Kogmeier, his siblings, Harold Koglmeier, Alice Melen, Shirley Mack, JoAnn Luke, and Gerald Koglmeier, and his daughter-in-law Gail Koglmeier.
