ALBANY-Erich R. Thiele, 91, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2017 at Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on June 19, 1925, to the late Robert E. and Marie (Willnow) Thiele in Nellschutz, Germany.
Erich came to the United States from Germany in 1951 and later became a US Citizen. Erich was a de-voted family man, raising 3 daughters and 2 sons with his wife Charlotte. He was a tireless, hard work-er. He was caretaker of the Bavarian Chalet Restaurant in Guilderland for about 20 years and later worked in maintenance for the NYS Office of General Services before retiring. Erich had a love for soccer and was a high goal scorer, playing with his many brothers-in-law in the Albany amateur soccer league. He was the life of the party, always joking, dancing, singing and playing the harmonica. Erich resided at the Baptist Nursing Home in Scotia for 8 years where he received excellent care by the won-derful staff and had frequent visits from his family.
Erich is survived by his children, Gerda (Bill) Wright, Anita (Jeff) Green, Heidi (Mark) Sengenberger, Robert (Lisa) Thiele; grandchildren, Denise Wright, Billy (Diane) Wright, Melissa Green, Jeffrey Green, Ryan Green, Jessica (Christian) Seabury, Michael (Anna) Sengenberger, Timothy Sengenberger, Erica Thiele, Peter Thiele; great-grandchildren, Nicolle, Robbie, Eddie, Shauna, Kyle, RJ, Cole, Ella, Madeleine, Nicholas, Charlotte, Henry, Layla and 4 great-great grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Thiele; son, Peter Thiele; granddaughter, Tracie Foland; great-grandson, Justin Schillinger; brothers, Gerherdt, Herbert and his sister, Inge.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Erich's life on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 1-3pm. A time of sharing memories will follow at 3pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
