Emily J. Laudato passed away Tuesday, February 10th at home in the loving arms of her husband Matthew and her mother Linda after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Emily was born in Albany on March 30th, 1978. She grew up in Guilderland and was a graduate of Guilderland Central High School. She studied at Georgetown University and graduated from the University at Albany with a bachelor’s degree in English.
Emily faced many medical challenges throughout her life, yet lived independently in Altamont, where she met her husband, Matthew Razzano, in 2010. They married in 2019 and built a life together with their cats in the Village of Colonie until her passing.
Emily’s spirit was generous and kind, with a poetic and sensitive soul that always put others before herself. Her dry wit and sense of humor could cut through sadness or pain and uncover a spark of joy. She loved cider donuts and the colors of fall; dazzling tulips in the park in spring; lounging on the beach at Grafton Lake in summer; and cuddling with one of her beloved cats under a warm blanket in winter.
Emily received exceptional care during her final illness. Her family is deeply grateful to all who supported her through countless acts of kindness. Special thanks to the staff of Community Hospice, especially her nurse and case manager, Kristin Barger, who was a guiding light throughout her hospice journey. The drivers and respiratory therapists at Northeastern Home Medical Equipment ensured she always had the equipment she needed.
She was the loving wife of Matthew Razzano; dear daughter of Linda Laudato of Latham and Paul Laudato of Fort Pierce, FL; dear sister of Matthew (Elisa) Laudato; dear niece of Barbara (Rich) Jerard, Ellen (Tom) McCormack, Tim (Dawn) Lange, Marybeth (John) Cassala, Joanne Lange, Anthony (Grace) Laudato, and Janna Laudato. She is survived by a wide circle of cousins who loved her deeply, and by her cherished parents-in-law Joanne and John Razzano and brother-in-law Greg (Nidhi) Razzano. She was the loving friend of Jen Terplak. She was predeceased by grandmothers Dot Lange and Alice Laudato, aunts and uncles Ed Lange, George Laudato, and Bev (Butch) Acker.
Calling Hours will be at New Comer Funeral Home, 181 Troy-Schenectady Rd, Watervliet, NY 12189 on Tuesday, February 17th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A celebration of her life will follow from 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness that will live on in all who knew her. In the words of her loving uncle Tim, “The world needs more Emilys.”
Donations in her name may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society at https://mohawkhumane.org/donate.
