Ellen Cataldo, 68, of Albany, NY passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer surrounding by her beloved husband and daughter on Sunday, July 28th.
Born in Springfield, MO on January 18th, 1956, she was the daughter of late Louis E. and Mary A. (Lynch) Hardy. Ellen grew up in Chelmsford, MA where she graduated from Chelmsford High School. She enjoyed her trips she took with her family to Sebago Lake. There were a lot of fond memories made there.
Ellen is survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Timothy Cataldo. Her two children, James Cataldo (Nicole) and Megan Zysinski Cataldo (Jonathan) both of Colonie, NY; three grandchildren, Emma Cataldo, Vincent Cataldo and Avery Cataldo. Her two brothers, David Hardy (Marybeth) of Greenland, NH and Dennis Hardy (Mary Parsons) of Beverly, MA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She worked over 30 years for the New York State Education Department in Albany, NY as an ITS Manager. She started from the bottom up as a clerk, and due to her hard work and dedication, rose up to the position she retired in. She had a hand in rebuilding the website for that department as well. Before her state career, she worked in retail such places as Caldor and Sofro Frabric stores.
Ellen enjoyed going on vacation to the beach. Many memories were had at Hampton Beach and Wildwood Beach. Her favorite beach to visit was North Myrtle Beach, she enjoyed long walks with her husband, taking a dip in the ocean and collecting seashells. In the summertime, you would find her out tending to her garden and her various bird feeders. On a cool summer evening, she would be bird watching on the porch. She enjoyed having season tickets to Saratoga Racetrack every summer and betting on the ponies. Recently during her treatments, she found enjoyment in doing puzzles with her husband.
We would like to thank the Community Hospice and NYOH in the care Ellen received throughout her cancer battle.
In lieu of flowers, Ellen’s wish is that a donation be placed in her honor to our local Hospice that helped her with her transition. Please see the link below:
