Elisabeth Weglinski

Elisabeth Weglinski, aged 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Elisabeth was born on November 4, 1928, in Herzogenaurach, Germany, to Georg and Kunigunda (Zimmerer) Mayd. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Stefan, her daughter Marianne, her brothers Matthias, Werner, and Georg, and her sisters Regina and Loni. She is survived by her three children: Gary Weglinski, Christine D'Amico, and Walter Weglinski (Michelle Dee); as well as her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Early in her life, Elisabeth worked in her hometown at the Adidas factory. She married Stefan in 1950. Due to Stefan's employment with the United States Army, and with sponsorship from the Polish National Catholic Church, the family was granted the opportunity to emigrate to the United States. In 1957, with a trunk, two boxes and a dream, the family traveled to America aboard the U.S.S. Langfitt, subsequently settling in Schenectady, New York. Elisabeth dedicated 30 years of service to General Electric in Schenectady before retiring in 1991.

Throughout her life, Elisabeth found great joy in cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, and cherished time spent with family. ’Omi’ will always be remembered for taking her grandchildren on trips around town, including bike and bus rides to explore Schenectady. She also enjoyed spending Sunday afternoons in the company of her friends.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, May 16, 2025, 1:30 - 2 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd., Watervliet, NY 12189. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1040 Pearl Street, Schenectady, NY 12303. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Glendale Nursing Home for their exemplary care.
