Albany – Eleanor (Harmon) Matera passed away peacefully on March 14, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospital. She was 86 years old. The daughter of the late Alexander and Eva (Olaf) Harmon, Eleanor was born on February 27, 1930 in Albany, NY. She married Daniel J. Matera on April 12, 1948 in Albany, NY. Eleanor worked for Albany Medical Center for 23 years until her retirement in 1992.
Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Eleanor was happiest with her family and enjoyed family dinners, playing cards and spending time at the Racino in Saratoga. She was known for making Italian Soup, delicious meatballs and helping her husband make Anisette Cookies. She will be with us always.
Eleanor is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Daniel J. Matera; her children: Catherine, Mary Ann (Mark) and David (Linda); her grandchildren: Dea, Andrew, Lucas, Grayson and Tessa; her great-grandchildren: Anthony, Janelle, Destin and Jaxon; great-great -grandchild, Desi and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her son, Daniel J. Matera, Jr; her sisters: Dorothy, Francis, and Lillian and her brother Bernie.
Visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, March 17 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, March 18 at Mater Christi Church, 35 Hurst Ave, Albany. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
