Elaine K. (Hirt) Gauthier

ALBANY - Elaine K.  (Hirt) Gauthier, 72, of Albany, N.Y., passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on February 23, 1954, to parents Michael J. Sheehan and Daria Sheehan (Barachini), Elaine built a life centered around love and family.

She was the devoted wife of Michael Gauthier, Beloved sister of Michael J. () Sheehan, Rita Sheehan; She graduated from Albany High School and later retired from the New York State Attorney General's Office after many years of dedication. But more than anything, Elaine was the heart of her family. 

She was a loving mother to Sarah Grant (Keith) and Matthew J. Hirt; a proud grandmother to Ashley Grant, Kassandra Franz (Zack), Kaila Franz, Maximus Bates, Shilah Flood-Hirt, Noah Hirt, and Payton Gauthier; and a cherished great-grandmother to Peyton Auriela and Ivory Condon. Her love for her family was constant, unconditional, and deeply felt in every moment she shared with them.

Elaine had the softest heart, especially when it came to animals, and a kindness that didn't need to be loud to be powerful. She showed her love in quiet ways, in presence, in care, and in simply being there. She also held close many lifelong friendships and valued her extended family deeply. 

A celebration of Elaine's life will be held on April 18, at 2 p.m., at the American Legion #1520, located at 4 Everett Rd. Extension, Albany, N.Y. 12205. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in her honor. She will be missed beyond measure and loved forever.
