Edward F. Magnusson died Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the age of 91 in Schenectady, NY. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elva (Cooper) Magnusson, and Carl Edward Magnusson of Seattle, WA, and by his brother, Philip Cooper Magnusson of Corvallis, OR.

Ed was born on September 15, 1924 in Seattle, Washington, where he grew up. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in June 1941 and then attended the University of Washington where he received a degree in electrical engineering. On July 8, 1944 he joined the Navy and served on the destroyer USS Blue DD 744. Upon return to the USA and discharge, he joined the Navy Reserves. In 1984, he retired from the reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
After the war, Ed attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he earned his master's degree in engineering. After completing his studies he joined General Electric in Pittsfield, MA. After 4 years he transferred to Schenectady NY where made his home. He later retired from General Electric in 1992.

Ed enjoyed hiking in the nearby Adirondack Mountains and traveled annually for a number of years to hike with his brother, Philip, in the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington. Over the years he also enjoyed national and international travel. He volunteered for many years building sets for the Schenectady light opera and he attended his naval reunions and General Electric retirement gatherings.

He is survived by his nieces, Barbara Ann (Magnusson) Maguire (Lambert Maguire) of Seattle, WA; Elizabeth Anne Magnusson (Howard Glazer) of Mill Valley, CA; and his nephew John Richard Magnusson of Corvallis Oregon and their children and grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 9:00 am at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY. Burial will be private in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
