COLONIE- Earl B. Blasch, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2017 with family by his side. He was born in Cincinnati, OH to the late Earl R. and Loretta Blasch.
Earl proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a medic in the South Pacific.
Earl graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He began his career with Fernald in Cincinnati and transferred to National Lead in Colonie, NY in 1958. He retired from NL Industries in 1976. He then pursued his interest in industrial ceramics, founding Blasch Precision Ceramics, along with his son Denny, which locally employs over 100 people and does business worldwide.
Earl was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Colonie where he served on the parish council. He moved to Myrtle Beach, SC where he spent 26 happy years before returning to the area in 2013. In Myrtle Beach he belonged to St Andrews Church, where he was very active and a major contributor to the building of their new parish center. He loved ice skating, bowling, golfing and singing. He loved to travel, especially cruising to Alaska with his family. Earl was a devoted family man who loved his children and his step-children as his own. He was an intelligent, kind, compassionate, giving man who was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his first wife, LaVerne R. Blasch, the mother of their six children; his second wife, Doris Kopshac Blasch, who had four children of her own; his third wife, Pauline Vejvoda Blasch, who added her six children to the family. He was also predeceased by step-daughter Marycaryl Kraaz, and sons-in-law, Brian Hoogkamp and William Heyden.
Earl is survived by his children, Denny (Penny), Donna (Paul) Darner, Mark (Cathy), Sheila Blasch, Mary Carol (Mike) Burke, and Bernie (Lisa); his step-children, Karen Hoogkamp, Nancy (David) Caprara, Michael and David (Kim) Kopshac, Paula Heyden, Chuck (Jeanie) Vejvoda, Steve (Terri) Vejvoda, Lois (Robert) Bruhl and Marian (Chip) Willams. Earl was blessed with many grandchildren and great-granchildren.
The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care he received from Melissa Gerald in Myrtle Beach and the exceptional care that he received at Kingsway Manor and Nursing Home in Schenectady, NY over the past 3 years.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 4pm-7pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations- Colonie Chapel, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
