Albany- Ramona VanWie Weissbard, 100, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence (LALR). She was born in Frewsburg, NY to the late Raymond and Lena VanWie, and grew up in Randolph, NY where her father was principal of the Central School.
Ramona graduated from Albany State Teacher's College after which she obtained her M.S. in Library Science from SUNY Geneseo. She worked in several state agencies creating departmental libraries, retiring from the Department of Labor. At the time of her death, she was the oldest and longest-term member of the Albany Unitarian Universalist Society. Throughout her lifetime, her summers were spent in the family's cottage in Chautauqua, NY.
Ramona is survived by her children, Judy (Don) Hanson and David (Karen) Weissbard; her grandchildren, Lisa (Valerie Oliva) Weissbard Shelley (Dean) Burns, Meredith (Ray) Andrews, Kathy (Gregg) DeCenzo, and Hilary Weissbard; her great-grandchildren, Talia, Drew, Emily, Zachary, Antoni, Caroline, Ethan, Kassia, and Ezio; her sister, Rita Finger; and many nieces, nephews, and honorary family member, Susan Richardson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Al and her brother, Donald VanWie.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Albany Unitarian Universalist Society, 405 Washington Ave., Albany.
