Duane Theodore “Ted” Crommie, 88, of Schenectady, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025. Born on August 12, 1937, in Cobleskill, he was the son of Mildred (Rickard) and Charles Crommie.
Ted graduated from Cobleskill High School and later attended SUNY Cobleskill. On April 27, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Marion Barber, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned 68 years.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Marion; his sister Marilyn Pastor, and his children, Diana (Bruce) Shank, Caroline (Joseph) Wilson, Timothy (Sonhui) Crommie, and Peggysue (Mark) Klebieko. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Duane Thomas Crommie.
Ted enjoyed a long career in the auto electrical industry, working for Orr’s, Gage’s, and XL, where he was known for his strong work ethic, patience, and reliability. Outside of work, Ted enjoyed woodworking, especially making wooden toys and building and racing slot cars. In his earlier years, he loved camping trips with his family and spending time bowling, creating memories his family still cherishes.
A wonderful storyteller, Ted had a gift for turning everyday moments into stories filled with warmth and humor. He was a steady, loving presence who made others feel welcome and at ease, always offering a smile and a kind word. His devotion to his family and the quiet way he showed his love will be remembered long after his stories are told.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Ted’s family on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 12:00pm to 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals,Funeral. A celebration of life service will follow at 2:00pm.
