North Babylon, NY (Long Island)- Douglas Edward James Handy, age 71, went home to our Lord on March 1, 2026.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late John and Catherine Handy. He was also predeceased by his sister Judith Horning.
Douglas retired from the East Islip CSD after 30 years as a custodian. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the kids and enjoyed being around the kids. He taught his daughter everything he knew about being a custodian.
His hobbies included making models, watching old time movies, Nascar (Daytona 500) and the Super Bowl.
He was the kindest man, he would go out of his way for anyone. He always wanted to help. He was known for his funny stories about growing up in Brooklyn and his Brooklyn accent.
Douglas is survived by his wife Holly; his daughter Kristine, his son Ricky and his daughter Ashley. He is also survived by his granddaughter Bella Barnette, grandson Cooper Terhune, grandson Ricky Errera and granddaughter Peyton Terhune.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Douglas’ family on Saturday March 7, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m., with a service starting a 5 p.m.
