Dottie Z, as she was known to most, left this earth to join her parents Dorothy Johnson (McGowan) and LeRoy Johnson in Heaven on Monday, September 5th 2016. Born May 24th 1944 in Troy NY, she was the oldest of 6 children. 3 brothers, James Johnson (Myra), Leroy Johnson (Donna), Robert Johnson (Debbie) and 2 sisters, Carolyn McCarthy (Thomas-deceased) and Gail Parker (Samuel). As a young girl, Dottie attended Troy schools, then moved to Rensselaer NY with her family where she graduated from Columbia High School. After graduation, she met James Zdunczyk, started her family and her 40 years career with Sterling Winthrop. With dedication and hard work she became the Quality Manager, a position that earned her respect from her peers. As the company grew, she was given the opportunity to travel. She visited places like Puerto Rico, Europe and Asia. In her spare time, Dottie loved to cook. She was known for her Chicken Soup and Chili. A request at every family function. She also loved to vacation in Las Vegas, Nevada. She always stayed at the Lady Luck Hotel and Casino. Her claim to fame was hitting it big on the nickels slots. On the weekends, you could almost always find her watching Matt Kenseth dominate the tracks in Nascar or stopping at a garage sale.
Dottie is survived by her 3 children, Pattie Zdunczyk of East Greenbush, Cheryl (Donald) Haeffele of Las Vegas and Stephen Zdunczyk of Brockport. She also leaves behind 4 beautiful grandchildren, Taylor (Steven) Hicks, Jarrid Rogers, Emily Cheney, Jessica Haeffele and 1 adorable great granddaughter, Marleigh Hicks along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the home health aides that took care of Dottie over the past 8 years as well as the staff at Sunnyveiw, Ellis, Pathways and her sisters. Without them, her time on this earth would have been much shorter.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Dotties name to The Salvation Army. It's an organization that had a strong influence in her life.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 12th at New Comer Funeral Home in Colonie, NY from 5-6pm for family and 6-7pm for friends. A funeral service to celebrate Dottie's life will held at 7pm, following visitation.
