Colonie – Dorothy L. (Dot) Bossert, 82, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2017 at her home. The daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Evon) Knapek, Dottie was born August 8, 1934 in Avondale, NJ. She was the wife of John A. Bossert, Sr. and sister of Stanley and Mary, all of whom have predeceased her.
Dot moved to Albany as a child and was a 1951 graduate of Albany High School. After graduating from high school, Dot worked as a photographer's assistant until family life became her top priority. She eventually returned to the workplace, retiring in 2000 from MLB Industries. She resided in Colonie most of her life, and was a long time communicant of St. Clare's Church. She enjoyed regular breakfasts with her prayer group at Yonder Farms or her elementary school friends at McDonalds, lunches with her high school classmates, and activities and trips with the Thunder Road Seniors. Known for her strong faith, she was a kind and gentle person, devoted to her friends and her family, especially "her girls", Karen, Rachel, Mary Anne and Arlene.
She is survived by her sons John A. Bossert, Jr. and Wm. Michael (Kathi) Bossert , her daughter, Dr. Karen (James Koch) Bossert, daughter-in-law Hon. Rachel Kretser , her nieces Mary Anne Shew and Arlene Martley, grandson Jonathan (Lauren) Berk, several nieces and nephews, and especially her dear friend, "E J" Knapik.
Viewing hours will be on Sunday, January 22, 2017 from 1pm to 4pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 9 am at St. Clare's Church, Central Ave., Colonie, followed by internment at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
