Albany – Dorothea M. Mikalonis (Dottie) passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the age of 93. Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Emig. Dorothea lived and raised her family in Accord, NY, and then spent her retirement years in Albany, NY.
Dorothea worked for the NY Telephone Company, The NYS Department of Correctional Services and the Rondout Valley Central School system. In addition to working full-time and parenting her children, Dorothea proudly completed her Associate's Degree at 54 years old. Her greatest joy, however, was being "mom" to her four daughters, Kathy (Don) Robbins, Carol (Mark) Lipton, Eileen Mikalonis and Nancy (Constantine) Harris. She also loved spending time with her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to being an avid aerobics and Zumba participant, Dorothea loved walking outdoors; taking advantage of every opportunity to do so, often outpacing her daughters well into her 80's.
Dorothea was predeceased by her devoted husband of 58 years, Vincent (Vinnie) Mikalonis. In addition to her daughters and their families, she is survived by her four siblings, Harriette Schmidt, Anna Mae Ross, Roger Emig and Bill Emig.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, 110 East 42nd Street, 16th Floor, NY, NY, 10017 (alzinfo.org) in memory of Dorothea Mikalonis.
