Doris Tremblay, 98, of Albany.
It is with heavy hearts that we mark the passing of Doris, on July 2nd at her home in the loving presence of family.
A lifelong resident of Albany, Doris was born to parents Benjamin and Mary Stammel.
In her youth Doris enjoyed watching the great movies of the era, she was a talented singer, and danced to the Big Band sounds. At an early age Doris learned the value of hard work at local downtown businesses. As an adult, she held various roles within New York State agencies and retired as secretary from the City of Albany Code Enforcement Department.
Doris was foremost a caring and attentive wife and mother, and enjoyed hosting family dinners and holiday meals. Throughout her life, she was always active, often walking, doing aerobics or swimming at local hotel pool clubs. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed keeping up with the news and current events and solving tv murder mysteries.
Doris continued driving within a modest radius until the age of 97, taking daily trips for fresh groceries and other necessities, and making community connections. She was also able to comfortably remain in her home of 63 years with the encouragement of family and caring neighbors.
Doris’ enthusiasm for life, humor and homemade soups will be greatly missed. She will be most remembered for her warmth, independent spirit, sharp wit and enduring strength.
Doris is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Gerald Tremblay, and her brother Raymond Stammel, as well as her cat Muffin of 22 years. She is survived by children Gerald (Margaret), Michelle (James), 6 grandchildren and 12 great grand children.
Private services will be arranged at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society or Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
