Schenectady- Donald E. Pettengill, 72, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017. He was the son of the late Edwin and Margaret Pettengill. Don always spoke of his love for his parents and very fondly of his childhood. Don is survived by his companion of seven years, Annmarie Miller. Don believed that he met Annmarie through "divine intervention" as they shared so many great memories throughout their time together. Don kept Annmarie active, introducing her to the sport of tennis and Don felt blessed to be a part of Annmarie's family.
Don earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from SUNY New Paltz and upon graduating, enrolled in the military. He spent his career working for the State of New York where he retired as a Financial Analyst.
Don was an avid sports fan and actively participated in the sports he loved, which included tennis and golf. He was a member of the USTA and played competitive tennis for years. Don enjoyed spending his winters at his home in Florida, which he shared with Annmarie. He will be missed for his great sense of humor, animated storytelling and hearty laugh.
In addition to Annmarie, Don is survived by Annmarie's two sons whom he considered his family, Michael D. Miller (Diana) and their son Anthony, John H. Miller (Colleen) and their son James. Don is also survived by several cousins and numerous close friends both in the Capital District and Spanish Lakes in Fort Pierce, FL.
