Dominick Joseph Izzo III lived a life defined not only by years, but by depth—of love, intellect, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. At 84, he passed peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Schenectady, New York, leaving behind a legacy that reaches far beyond what words can fully capture.
Born on April 21, 1941, in Gloversville, New York, Dominick was the son of the late Dominick Joseph Izzo, Jr. and Bertha (DeVilio) Izzo.
From an early age, he possessed a sharp, inquisitive mind and a natural curiosity about the world. A graduate of Gloversville High School, he continued his studies at the College of the Holy Cross, where his lifelong love of learning took deeper root.
Dominick proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1964 and continued his service in the Naval Reserves until 1974. His sense of duty, discipline, and integrity carried seamlessly into his professional life, where he built a respected career as a financial advisor—always “crunching numbers,” always thinking ahead, and always offering steady, thoughtful guidance to those who relied on him.
A longtime resident of Niskayuna, Dominick was, at heart, a lifelong world traveler. Whether exploring new destinations or immersing himself in books, he was endlessly fascinated by history, culture, and the stories that shape our lives. He was a true student of history—especially Catholic history—and a firm believer in the power of education and understanding. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. A devout Catholic and dedicated member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Schenectady, Dominick lived his beliefs through both quiet reflection and active service.
He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a board member of Northern Rivers Northeast Parent & Child Society, giving his time and energy to causes that strengthened families and communities.
Above all, Dominick was a family man. His beloved wife of 63 years, Josephine Ann (Fracatore) Izzo, was the center of his world and his greatest partnership. Together, they built a life rooted in love, respect, and enduring commitment.
He is survived by Josephine and their children: Dominick Izzo IV (Robin), Vincent Izzo (Sharon), and Jennifer Morrison (David Sr.); his sister, JoAnn (Izzo) Denesha Bussman; along with 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren as well as his chosen Swiss daughter, Irene Hächler (Guido) and their 4 sons. To his grandchildren, and many others, he was simply “Poppi”—a title worn with pride and love. He was their biggest fan, a constant presence at every game, performance, and milestone. No event was too small, no moment unimportant. His encouragement was steady, his pride unmistakable, and his presence deeply felt. Being “Poppi” was one of his greatest joys, and one of his most cherished roles.
He will be fondly remembered for his humor—subtle, dry, and often delivered with perfect timing. More often than not, he wore a sly, knowing smile, but when that smile opened into a full, beaming grin, it lit up the room and those within it.
He was predeceased by his parents and his infant granddaughter, Mary Katharine Izzo, who remained forever in his heart.
