Dolores Schiano, 95, Beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother
On May 27, 2025 heaven gained a beautiful soul. Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dolores Schiano, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 14,1930 in Schenectady, NY to Attilio and Anne Santilli, Dolores lived a life rooted in community, compassion, and care. Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Vincent Schiano, 'The Count' for 71 years. Together they raised two children, Anthony Gerard of Syracuse and Anne of Cohoes.
While raising her children, Dolores spent the school year as a school library aide and enthusiastic president of Anne and Tony’s fan clubs. She cherished summers on Galway Lake entertaining her children and their friends while managing access to the family business, the Rose Garden. 😉😉
Dolores and Tony’s adventures eventually led them to Niskayuna, Round Lake, Pittstown, Satellite Beach, FL and back to Cohoes, NY. Regardless of location, Dolores’ heart had no boundaries. She welcomed everyone into her home, caring about her neighbors and the world around her. Everywhere she went she made friends that lasted the rest of her life. She never said goodbye but always said, “Have a good day. And if you don’t it’s your own fault!!”
More than anything else, Dolores loved her family with her whole heart and soul. She played an intimate and loving role in the lives of her grandchildren, Adam and Whitney. She cherished the countless summers spent with them—days filled with laughter, home-cooked meals, and the simple joy of being together.
Dolores was elated by the births of each of her great-grandchildren, Mila, Parker and Landon and lived for their regular updates, video calls and pictures on her mobile frame. Morning and evening phone calls from her beloved son and grandson were treasured moments of every day.
Dolores was a woman of deep faith who was always adding another person to her prayer list. She was a member and a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy NY.
Dolores created a family filled with love and joy, because she was filled with love and joy. She leaves behind her daughter, Anne Schiano, her son-in-law, Michael Washousky, her son, Tony Schiano, her grandchildren, Adam Washousky (Karla Washousky) and Whitney Vazza (Rick Vazza) and three adored great-grandchildren (Mila, Parker and Landon Vazza).
Dolores was strong, funny, generous, unfailingly positive and always encouraging. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered and celebrated. Her love story, rich in laughter and devotion, now continues in heaven, where she joins her beloved husband Tony, her parents, her brothers Angelo and Richard Santilli, and dear cousins in eternal peace.
