David W. Travis Sr., 86, of Old Chatham, passed away peacefully at his home on October 23, 2026, following a brief illness.
Born on October 4, 1940, in Petersburg, New York, David was the son of the late William and Viola (Jones) Travis.
David shared 61 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jeanne Lucille “Tillie” Travis. Together, they built a life and family that meant so much to him.
In addition to his wife, Tillie, David is survived by his children, David Jr. (Sherry), Jacqueline (Doug) Wheeler, Scott (Carol), and Lauri Travis; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by his sister, Gloria Teal.
David spent his career starting at Jersey testing then moved to superintendent of Spancrete Northeast; salesman at W.R. Grace where he retired and then worked at Quality Control at Clemente Latham
Music brought David joy throughout most of his life. He and Tillie shared their love of music as members of the Peaceful Country Band, and David also with the Peaceful Valley Boys. Music was an important part of his life and created many special memories for him and those around him.
Outside of work and music, David enjoyed the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. One of the highlights of his year was his annual trip to Gracefield, Quebec, a tradition he looked forward to and cherished.
David was deeply committed to his community. He was a dedicated member of Kinderhook Elks Lodge No. 2530 for many years, where he served as bar chairman and was awarded Elk of the year. He was also a proud member of the Tri-Village Fire Department for 60 years, reflecting his longstanding commitment to the community he called home.
Above all, David was someone his family could always count on. He was always willing to lend a hand and help those who needed him. His children and grandchildren knew they could turn to him, no matter the circumstances. He had a way of being there when it mattered most, offering help and support when it was needed. The love he had for his family and the memories they shared will remain with them always.
David leaves behind a legacy of family, hard work, music, friendship, and service to his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on through the many generations of his family.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on November 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kinderhook Elks Lodge. There will be no calling hours.
