David H. Bulman

Glenville- - David H. "Dave" Bulman, 86, passed away peacefully February 19th, 2018.

David was born on April 18, 1931 to Howard and Evangeline Bulman, and graduated from Fairport High School in 1949. He graduated from the Clarkson College of Technology with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and completed graduate studies in Traffic Engineering at Yale University. David worked for the city of Rochester as city traffic engineer from 1960 to 1966. In 1966 he moved to Albany to begin a career with the New York State Department of Transportation. David worked in the Traffic and Safety Division, where he worked to improve traffic safety in local communities across the state. In 1984 David was appointed the first Executive Director of the newly created NYS Public Transportation Safety Board. He retired from New York State in 1991. From 1994 to 2016, David taught the senior learning course Science Times at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica. David overcame a debilitating congenital heart defect by undergoing pioneering open heart surgery in 1960. He had a life-long zest for learning, and had a deep appreciation for science and technology. He loved to travel, particularly to the American southwest. He was passionate about his vocation of transportation safety, and was a licensed professional engineer for over 50 years.

David is survived by his three children, David (Karen) Bulman of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Ellen (Michael) Olenyk and Elizabeth (Barry) Wygel, both of Clifton Park; five grandchildren, Barry (Carolyn) Wygel, Candace Wygel, Courteney and Meghan Olenyk, and Nathan Bulman; two siblings, Calvin (the late Rose) Bulman of Henrietta, NY and Richard (Karen) Bulman of New York, NY; also survived by cherished friends and family members.
Donations can be made to the American Heart Association.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, New York 12189. A funeral service will follow starting at 7:00pm.

Calling hours will be held the next day, Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals (Rochester), 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY 14609. A funeral service will begin at 1:30pm with interment following at Perinton Center Cemetery, Perinton, New York.
