Daniel F. Rappazzo, 93, passed away peacefully Sunday at Daughters of Sarah. Born September 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Dominick and Mary Rappazzo.
A graduate of Philip Schuyler and Fredonia College of Music, Dan earned his Masters Degree at Columbia University, including many doctored courses.
Dan served his country in Korea from 1956-1958, including being the organist for the Catholic church there. Back home he spent the next 30 years as a music teacher at Nanuet High School where he was the music director of their annual musicals. He was always "forced" to play the piano at every family get together while the rest of us sang just about every popular song from the old days (no rock 'n roll!).
In college, Dan sang baritone along with his life long friends, Stash, Renee and Frank in a quartet called "The Fortissimos". Music was truly a major love of his, especially symphonies and operas. When he retired he moved to NYC, just two blocks from the Metropolitan Opera House, which he visited almost weekly.
More than music, Dan especially loved his family and being a beloved uncle to Michelle, Johnny (Courtney), and Katie Moore, and the dozens of nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings Anna (Joe) Micare, Mario (Elizabeth) Rappazzo, Santo Rappazzo, Andy Rappazzo, Felicia (Frank) Narlo, Charles (Vera) Rappazzo, Millie Manzi, and Frank (Rae) Rappazzo. He is survived by his siblings Margaret (Guy) Jubert, Mary Sorell, Frances (Lenny) DiTrapano, Palma (Chick) Grenier, Dominic Rappazzo, and Grace (John) Moore.
Reading (all Dickens books, etc) history, science and contemporary affairs were also priorities with Dan. he was truly a man for all seasons and we will miss him but never forget him.
Rest in Peace Dan.
