Daniel J. Codden

April 28, 1944 — June 25, 2024

Daniel J. Codden, Sr., 80, of Guilderland, NY passed away at his home after suffering a heart attack on June 25, 2024. He was born on April 28, 1944, to the late Avery and Fae Codden in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Daniel Codden graduated in 1962 from Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant, MI. He proudly served in the 9th Infantry Division of the US Army during the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star medal for his service. Daniel was instrumental in the start of the New York State Lottery and worked diligently for the Lottery for 27 years, retiring in 2003. After his retirement he dedicated his time to his grandchildren – anything from jumping in as a full-time babysitter for his granddaughter, to building playsets for his grandson. He loved watching football; he was an avid Wolverines fan and would not miss a University of Michigan football game.

Daniel found joy in helping his family and friends. He was very handy and especially loved to help when he could use his power tools. He also enjoyed driving his pickup truck and was eager to help anyone with a move. Daniel was a quiet man but possessed a wicked sense of humor. He will be remembered for his generosity, integrity and dedication to family and friends.

Daniel is survived by his children, Stephanie Weatherly (Gresham) and Daniel Codden, Jr. (Colleen); grandchildren, Hugh, Mary, Emma, and Ava; sister, Patricia Codden; sister-in-law, Carol Codden; brother-in-law, Glen “Doug” Durfee. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Michael Codden, and sister Linda Durfee.

A graveside service will take place on Monday July 29 at 12:00 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville NY.
