Rotterdam - Dana J. Lane, whose journey in this world began on January 10, 1951, in the town of Niskayuna, left us too soon on September 23, 2025, in Rotterdam, NY. He departed this life peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy woven with threads of compassion, family devotion, and musical passion.
For an impressive 38 years, Dana dedicated his professional life to SUNY Central Administration, where his commitment and hard work were deeply respected. His quiet demeanor belied a spirited heart that radiated warmth and kindness to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Above all else, Dana’s greatest joy blossomed in the embrace of family. He was the proud husband of Ellen Lane of 51 years, with whom he shared countless cherished moments. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and memories that will linger in their daughters’ hearts forever.
Dana’s three daughters, Melissa (Rick) Prior, Crystal (Drew) Thomas, and Shannon (Mike) Terry, can attest to their father’s enduring love and pride as he witnessed them grow and flourish into remarkable adults. His proudest accomplishment was raising these three daughters, who each carry a piece of his compassionate spirit within them.
As a grandfather, Dana found joy in the simple pleasure of spending time with his grandsons, Joshua Thomas, Mason Terry, and Jackson Terry. Whether playing games, sharing stories, or just enjoying quiet moments together, his bond with them was a cherished gift he nurtured with love and dedication.
In addition to his family life, Dana was a man of many interests and talents. He was a respected drummer who enjoyed sharing his musical gifts by playing with various bands. Whether keeping rhythm on stage or drumming along to his favorite tracks at home, his passion for music was a vibrant facet of his personality. An avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, Dana painted his weekends with spirited enthusiasm for the sport, engaging in lively debates and cheering on his team from the comfort of his home.
Dana’s interests extended beyond music and sports; he was a proud member of the TA/Z28 Car club, indulging his love for automobiles. His affinity for fast cars was matched only by his zeal for gardening, NASCAR, and weekend fishing trips. His quiet, compassionate nature drew him to animals, creating a gentle harmony in his life that complemented his numerous hobbies.
Dana joins his beloved parents, Clarke Lane and Avis Lane, and his brother, Dale Lane, in eternal rest. Though they have departed from this earth, their memories will forever echo in the hearts of those they left behind.
As friends and family gather to remember Dana's indelible impact on their lives, a visitation ceremony will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday September 28, 2025 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie, NY 12205.
