Colleen Marie Vickers(Fraher), 68, took her final breath on May 27th, 2026 surrounded by her family, after a sudden illness. She was born on August 15th, 1957 in Kankakee, Il, to the late Eugene and “Sally” Fraher.
She was the 5th of 7 children, the first single birth after two sets of twins but had the energy of twins always. As children they traveled a lot with Eugene’s work and made their way to Guilderland, NY where him and Sally finally settled to raise their family . Colleen met her one true love when she was 17 and they had been together ever since (47 years). Colleen graduated from Mercy High School in 1975. Her and Tim were married in 1982. She graduated from JCA college in 1983 and began her nursing career at St. Peter’s Hospital. She finally retired from nursing in May 2025. She was a compassionate and dedicated nurse who genuinely loved her job because she truly loved to help and care for others. Whether she was caring for strangers or friends or family she treated everyone equally and was admired by everyone for her jovial and loving personality.
She absolutely loved music, singing and dancing, truly as if no one was watching. She loved flowers and her herb garden. She always loved animals, and Millie, her faithful kitty companion of 17 years, crossed the rainbow bridge just the morning before to wait for her. One of her favorite events was the entire extended family joining to celebrate her birthday at the Top of the Stretch at Saratoga Race Track every year.
Colleen often said that the greatest gifts her daughter ever gave her were her two beloved grandchildren, Abigail Marie, 19, and Arya Rose, 10. When Abigail first began to talk, she affectionately and unknowingly gave Colleen the nickname "Noomah." From that day forward, she was known as Noomah—not only to her grandchildren, but to everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 44 years, Timothy Vickers, (67); their three children, Jessica(39), Kevin(35), and Patrick(29); and her two cherished grandchildren, Abigail Marie and Arya Rose. She also leaves behind her six siblings, Dianne, Dennis, Marcia, MaryJo, Timmy, and John, as well as countless nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives she touched with her love and kindness.
The family expresses its profound gratitude to the St. Peter's Hospital ICU staff for their exceptional care, compassion, and tireless efforts. Colleen would have been deeply impressed.
