COLONIE_ Cheryl "Cherie" Cassidy, 66, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2016 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn with her husband by her side.
Cherie was born on July 28, 1949 in Schenectady, NY, daughter of the late Bill and Doris Stekeur. She is the beloved wife of Thomas Cassidy, whom she married in 1969. She graduated from Colonie Central High School, class of 1967 and graduated from Albany Business College in 1969 with an Associate's degree in Business. Cherie was an executive secretary for Hills Brothers Coffee and after retirement she worked in food service at Sand Creek Middle School.
She was a member of Lishaskill Reformed Church for many years, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and was a member of in the "Witness" of Christian Music Ministries with her husband. Cherie enjoyed cooking, gardening and camping at Pop's Lake Campground, where she will always be remembered as "Aunt Cherie". She loved traveling to Williamburg, Virginia Beach, St. Louis, Springfield, Illinois and Lake George. She also enjoyed caring for her little dog Panda.
Cherie struggled with her health for many years which she handled with courage and grace. She will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to know and love her.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; sisters, Linda Logan (Pat) of Auburn, IL., Eileen Thompson (Sandy) of Norwalk, Ct.; sister-in-law, Jane Metcalf (Josh) of Woodstock, Vt.; brother-in-law, David Cassidy (Patti) of Nashville, Tn. and several nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at New Comer Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A service will follow at 7:00pm. Interment will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11am at Memory Garden's Cemetery. Those who wish to follow in procession to the cemetery should arrive at 10:30am at New Comer Funeral Home.
