Charles J Walthers, 76, of Guilderland, NY passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family, after a six-year battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
Chuck grew up in Latham and graduated from Shaker High School in 1967. At 18 years old he served in the Vietnam War, where he fought in an active war zone from 1968-1970, serving his country as a Sergeant in the US Army. He was awarded both the Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal. When he returned home, he went on to work at Central Market for 13 years, during which time he met his wife and soulmate of 53 years, Joy.
Chuck was a dedicated employee of United Technologies Carrier and a member of the UA Local 7, before retiring after 25 years.
He had a lifelong passion for Corvette’s, spending a lot of his free time at swap meets where he bought and sold Corvette parts. He was well known and respected within that community; and was regarded as being an honest and knowledgeable person. Being such a genuine person, he forged many lifelong friendships with the countless people he met.
Chuck and Joy delighted in traveling, enjoying their time together on many adventures over the years. Chuck was a man who loved his family, and always put them first. He was a truly kindhearted man whose gentle humor would always bring about a smile to anyone he met.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife Joy, their children Corrine (Geoff) and David, as well as, his siblings Andy (Linda), Carolyn (Tony) and Bill (Beverly). He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Agnes and his lifelong childhood friend, Jimmy.
