CLIFTON PARK - Charles "Les" Diener, Jr., 90, formerly of Clifton Park and North Ft. Myers, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.
Les was born in Albany on July 10, 1925 and was the son of the late Charles L. Sr. and Agnes D. (Colman) Diener. He served proudly for our country in the US Army Air Force during WWII in the Pacific Theater, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Les received his Associates Degree from the Albany Business College. He worked as an accounting and payroll manager for General Electric for 30 years, before retiring in 1980.
Les was a member of the VFW Post 1498 of Clifton Park, American Legion Post 1450 of Halfmoon, and the GE Quarter Century Club. He was a devoted member of the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years, starting with Troop 58 and then a founding member of Troop 48, where he was a Scoutmaster for 12 of those years under both Troop's. Les earned the BSA Order of The Arrow-Vigil. He was also a blood donor for the American Red Cross for 20 years, donating eight and a half gallons. He had a love for music and enjoyed playing the organ and the accordion. Les was an avid roller skater and did both freestyle and dance for many years with his wife, Joan.
Les was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joan R. (Scofield) Diener and his daughter, Kathleen J. Lanning. He is survived by his children, Robert C. (Carol) Diener, Karen J. Diener, and William J. (Kathy) Diener; his son-in-law, Craig A. Lanning; and his grandchildren, Stephanie L. (Jeff) Geller, Matthew T. (Allison Aber) Lanning, Karl W. Diener and Keith R. Diener. He also survived by his brother, John "Jack" Diener; niece, Bethany Diener and nephew, Alexander (Joy) Diener.
The family would like to thank the staff at House 16 of the Eddy Village Green for their compassionate care given to Les.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Colonie.
