Albany- Charles R. Cassidy, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 15, 2016. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Charles and Amelia Cassidy.
He joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 17 and then went on to become a Sergeant in the Air Force stationed in England.
He attended Marist College receiving a B.A. and went on to receive his Master's Degree from SUNY New Paltz. Charles was self-employed for the past 13 years as an educational consultant. Prior to that he worked for the NYS Department of Education and then the Connecticut Department of Education, retiring in 2003. Chuck taught high school English and theater at Coxsackie Athens Central School District for 10 years. He loved directing plays at the school and he loved his students. He was also active in community theater where he met his wife in Fiddler on the Roof.
Chuck enjoyed flying and had a private pilot's license. He loved playing golf and working out at the gym. He adored his beloved Dalmatian, Becky. He also loved historical movies and studying French.
Chuck is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Catherine R. Cassidy. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Stoutland; brothers-in-law, John (Linda), Kevin (Barbara), Paul (Christine), and Brian Sheehan; and his dear friend Mike Moon; as well as several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
There will be no calling hours, but friends and relatives are invited to a graveside service on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 11am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
