Catherine (Czwakiel) Sasso, 93, passed away peacefully at Teresian House on Saturday, October 4, 2025 after a 6-year journey with dementia. She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Frank Czwakiel. Up until the end, Catherine maintained her kindness, compassion, love of family and friends, and especially her sassiness that will be missed at Teresian House. She had boundless selflessness; thinking more of others than she did of herself. A day didn't go by that she wasn't singing Que Sera Sera (which seemed to be how she lived her life - whatever will be, will be').
Catherine lived her entire life in Albany. She married her husband John in 1953 and they raised their four children. She worked at Huyck Mills until she had her children. After they had grown, she took a job a Colonie High School cafeteria where she was loved by the students. They called her Edith (after Edith Bunker from All in the Family). Until she retired, she took pride in cleaning for the Picotte Company. She loved to cook and could feed an army on the holidays. Despite being Polish, she made a mean spaghetti sauce.
Catherine was married nearly 60 years to John until his passing in 2012. She is survived by her loving children Kathy Graziadei (Bob), Lori Morrell (Nick) and John Sasso. Her grandchildren Dustin, Chelsey, lan and Jenna. And three great grandchildren-Elianah, Tripp and Kellen, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter JoAnn who sadly passed in 2023, as well as her siblings Charles Muraski, John Purzycki, Frank Purzycki, Vincent Muraski, Stanley Muraski, Jessie Crisafulli, Joseph Muraski and Stella Patricelli.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Catherine's family Saturday, October 11, 2025 11am-Noon at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. There will be a brief service at noon. Buriel will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Catherine's memory to Teresian House Carmel Garden Activities, 200 Washington Ave Ext, Albany, NY 12203. The family would like to thank the staff at Carmel Gardens West for their incredible care, dedication and love they gave Catherine for the past 5 1/2 years.
