Catherine Rose Benedict

COLONIE-Catherine R. Benedict, 97, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Catherine was the matriarch of her family and will be remembered for her kind heart, generosity, sense of humor and strength. She was a homemaker, fabulous cook and amazing baker. She was known for her wedding cakes, her platters of Italian cookies and her undeniable homemade pizza. She made holidays spectacular. She loved dancing, dressing up for Halloween, sewing, arts and crafts, bowling, playing slots at the casinos, camping, but mostly spending time with her family creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Born in Albany, NY on September 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Daniel (Donato Marrese) Morris & Theresa (Sabia) Morris and beloved wife of the late Stephen A. Benedict Sr.

Catherine was predeceased by her sisters: Mary Lujan, Carmela Defilippo, Elizabeth Grabowski and her brothers: Dominic, Vincent, Anthony and Michael DeMusis.

She is the devoted mother of Francine M. Brandolino (Donald Blais), Daniel V. Benedict and Stephen A. (Barbara J.) Benedict Jr. Catherine is the cherished grandmother of Nicole (Kenneth) Crowe, Tonya French, Amy (Richard Silvano, Danielle Benedict, Michael (Danielle) Benedict and the cherished great-grandmother of Gillian (Nicholas) Duarte, Alexa Baker and Caleb Benedict. Catherine also leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189. All are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 11 a.m. at The Church of Saint Clare, 1947 Central Ave, Colonie, NY 12205. Entombment will follow at Memory Gardens, Colonie, NY.
