Catherine A. Sorrentino

June 28, 1932 — December 25, 2015

Clifton Park- Catherine "Chickie" A. Sorrentino, 83, entered into God's eternal grace on December 25, 2015 surrounded by family. She was born the last of nine children to the late Vincenzo and Assunta Castaldo at home in Mechanicville on June 28, 1932. Chickie graduated salutatorian from Mechanicville High, continued onto State Teachers' College in Albany, NY, then earned her MBA from SUNY Albany. Chickie taught at Notre Dame High School in Schenectady, NY and CCHS in Troy, NY. She also worked at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory before her retirement.

Chickie was a devout Roman Catholic, a daily communicant, a lector and extraordinary Eucharistic minister who loved to share her faith with others. Her participation within the church involved many years with Marriage Encounter as well as being an advocate for the pro-life movement. Her faith enabled her biggest passion, her big family. She spent summers with them at Ogunquit Beach in Maine. Her adventurous love of traveling was well mapped out. Whether with family or to see her family spread across the country or abroad, Chickie always had a purpose. Her Italian roots provided the seeds of love to grow and nurture her own garden as well as her family. This extended past the family as every event became a production of entertainment and cooking; no one left the Sorrentino house hungry.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank L. Sorrentino; her children, Pamela (James) Boyle, John, Francis (Berna), Jamie (the late Richard) Perez, Timothy (Laura Jacques), and Michaela (Patrick) Rooney; her grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew), Jon, Alyssa, Jena, Giovanni, Vincent, Stephanie, Michael (Lindsay), Dominica, Dina, Anthony, Joelle, Jamie, Jillian, Nick, Francesca, Nicholas, and Jason; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother Vincent Castaldo and many nieces and nephews. Chickie was predeceased by her grandsons, Gabriel Sorrentino and Anthony Sorrentino.

Chickie's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Schuyler Ridge Nursing home for their excellent care and compassion.
