Carolyn A. Stiles Smith passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026. Carolyn was born on January 10, 1942. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Born and raised in Troy, NY, Carolyn was proud of her Italian heritage. She attended Troy High School and Mildred Elley and found great joy in helping plan and attend her high school reunions.

In 1977 following her marriage to George J. Smith they moved to Loudonville and became communicants of St. Pius X Church. In her early years, Carolyn was a legal secretary and then moved on to work within the New York State Senate, where she retired after many years of service.

Throughout her life, Carolyn was known for her infectious laugh, generous heart, and one of a kind personality. A devoted wife, doting mother and grandmother, Carolyn was the "original helicopter mother", possessing a knack for knowing the whereabouts of everyone she loved. Her granddaughters, Riley and Isabella, were the lights of her life. She loved making up funny songs and singing them to the girls creating memories filled with laughter. Carolyn also had a gift for dramatically telling a story, occasionally embellishing a detail or two along the way. Her animated storytelling, sense of humor, and infectious laugh were all part of what made her one of a kind. She had a way of turning an ordinary moment into a story that would leave everyone laughing

Some of her happiest moments were spent in the kitchen, preparing delicious meals for her family and baking homemade treats, especially during the holidays. Her recipes for Italian food were passed down from her mother and were like no others. Through the years, Carolyn and George enjoyed their annual vacations, occasional cruises and trips to Yankee Stadium. Carolyn also enjoyed a good shopping trip.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Charles A. Stiles, in 1969 and her mother, Catherine M. Suppa, in 1993. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, George J. Smith, her daughter, Lisa A. Allen, her granddaughters Riley C. Allen and Isabella R. Allen and her sister Catherine M. Houlihan.

Her family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Saint Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially Alexis Wilson and the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center for their care, kindness and compassion they have shown Carolyn.
