Carolyn Jean Sarbello

GUILDERLAND - Carolyn J. Sarbello, 78, of Guilderland, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Albany Medical Center.

Carolyn was born July 2, 1948 in Buffalo, NY. She was predeceased by her loving husband, William “Bill” Sarbello and her parents William J. and Emma W. Schutz. She is survived by her brother, Richard (Jane) Schutz of Mebane, NC, nieces Keri (Dave) Stevens of Cicero, NY, Katherine Schutz of Apopka, FL, and grand nieces Adalyn Stevens and Brynley Stevens of Cicero, NY. Carolyn was also surrounded by many close friends from her college days at Cornell University and her colleagues at Mohonason Central schools.

Carolyn graduated from Ithaca High School in 1966, Cornell University College of Agriculture in 1970, attended Southern Illinois University and received a Masters of Science in Education from St. Rose College in 1977. After teaching in Westfield, MA for 3 years, she then taught various science classes, including her favorite subject, Earth Science at Mohonasen Central School District in Rotterdam, NY from which she retired.

Carolyn and Bill loved to travel. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, especially on river cruises. Their favorite vacation destination however, was Yosemite National Park in California where they especially enjoyed their time at Tuolumne Meadows. In addition to travel, Carolyn enjoyed playing golf, gardening (especially tending to her daylilies) and book club. She also loved spending time with her nieces and grand nieces.

A special thank you to Carolyn’s aides who not only gave her excellent care and support during the last few years, but also became her “local family and friends.” Carolyn also cherished her spiritual family at Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church.

There will be a celebration of Carolyn’s life at 1:00PM on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at the Hamilton Union Presbyterian Church 2291 Western Ave, Guilderland, NY 12084 Please join us there and share your favorite memories of Carolyn.
