Carol Frances Johnson "Sugar Bear", born in Albany on Jan. 11, 1950, departed this life on April 17, 2017.
She graduated from Ichabod Crane Central School in 1969. She attended Hudson Valley Community College. She retired from the NYS Dept. of Health after 39 years of service.
Sugar was an avid member of Payne AME Church.
Carol was an avid softball player, she was the pitcher in Phase Two traveling league. She loved bowling in the Woman's Classic League and the NY State Tournaments as well as the Lilac Tournaments.
She continued to work in the bowling sport as a bartender and front-end manager at Action Lanes and The Playdium Bowling Center. She was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers.
She is survived by her siblings, Doris (Gene) Chapman of Colorado, Curtis (Jeanette) Johnson of Old Chatham , Patricia Paul of Schenectady, David Johnson of Kinderhook, Marjorie Johnson-Hymes of Stockport.
She is predeceased by her father Morton F. Johnson and Mother Kathleen Kittell Johnson and brother, Morton F. Johnson, Jr.
She will be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate Carol's life will be held on April 27, 2017 at 2pm at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205. Visitation will be held from 1-2pm at the funeral home before the service.
