LOUDONVILLE

Listen to Obituary

LOUDONVILLE- Candelaria Person, age 79, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on September 25, 2026 at St. Peter's Hospital. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, “Cande” was beloved by all who knew her.

She was born in Alice, TX, the daughter of the late Guadalupe Naranjo and Maria Acevedo Naranjo. She was preceded in death by her brother Guadalupe Ramon († Carolyn) Naranjo and her sister Maria “Mary Lou” († Rale) Garza.

Candeleria is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Edward Person; her children: Michael James Person (Jennifer Catelli) of Medford, Massachusetts, AnnMarie Person (Matt Kelley) of Yardley, Pennsylvania, and Nicole (Gerry) Montondo of Clay, New York, and her beloved grandson, James Patrick Montondo. She is also survived by her sisters, Hermelinda (Scott) Norris of Victoria, Texas; Yolanda (John) Anderson of Freer, Texas; Alma (Carlos) Garza of Freer, Texas, her brother Ricardo Naranjo († Gloria) of Freer, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cande was retired from her long-time employment with the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted member of Christ Our Light Catholic Parish in Loudonville, an active member of the parish’s Rosary Society, and worked with the parish food pantry, providing translation and outreach to Spanish-speaking families. She was also a proud member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520 and the Menands Senior Center.

She cherished time with family, especially when everyone was together for the holidays. Some of her favorite times were trips to a casino with her sisters, where the time together mattered more than the gambling. She was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and faithfully followed the New York Yankees, “the bums,” as she called them, as well as UConn women’s basketball. She treasured time spent with her friends at the Post and always looked forward to her lunches, shopping trips, and senior trips with her dear friend Sue Trainor. One of her greatest joys, though, was keeping up with her beloved grandson James and following his soccer games.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her calling hours on Thursday, October 1, from 4–7 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205. All are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, October 2, at 11 am at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Albany, NY 12211.
