Betty M. Lanahan

Bettina M. (Betty) Lanahan, 89, wife of the late John J. Lanahan Jr., passed away July 26th, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born August 13th, 1935, in Granville NY, she was the daughter of the late BG. William J. Mangine Sr., and Elizabeth (Donahoe) Mangine.

Betty graduated from The Academy of Holy Names High School and then began her career at Pearl Grant Richman's in Albany. Later she found her calling as a teacher’s aide in the Special Education System with BOCES- a role she absolutely loved.

A lifelong Yankees fan, Betty rarely missed a game and cherished time spent at a special place she lovingly called “Lanahan’s Hill” at Cook Park in Colonie. She was also a passionate bowler for over 40 years, earning many awards for her skills.

Betty is survived by her sons, Timothy (Patty) of Schenectady, Michael (Nicole) of Colonie, William (Rose) of Colonie, Dennis (Shannon) of Waterford, her daughter Mary (Lanahan) Ranson, of Virginia, and Kerry (Lanahan) Hufland, of Colonie, and her daughter-in-law, Cecile Sorel Lanahan, wife of Betty's late son John J. Lanahan. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Friday August 1, 2025, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie NY, 12205.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Peters ICU, and the staff at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s for the amazing care that was provided. We would also like to thank the staff at Eddy Senior Care in Schenectady. Their support and dedication are unmatched to anything we have ever seen before. Thank you to all of you.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Hospice Inn at St. Peters, or The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
