Bethlehem -Bertram G. Butlin, age 92, peacefully passed at his residence December 7, 2025.He was born in Albany, NY, the son of late Bertram George and Flora Butlin. He was predeceased by his children, Wendy Butlin and Eric Butlin. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Janet Butlin; daughter, Tracey Leone; sister, Elizabeth Daguillo; sister-in law, Linda LaMarche; grandson, Gabriel Leone; son in law, Patrick Cerasia . He is also survived by 9 loving nieces: Pauline, Bonnie, Ricky, Donald, Laird, Janice, Sandra, Tom, Annie and multiple great nieces and nephews who he adored.
Bertram was a graduate of Albany High School, and received a Master's degree at Syracuse University in 1962 after serving in the Army. He worked for the Ravena Coeymans Selkirk Central School District for 26 years and served for Hillside House Coeymans Community Residence Programs prior to retiring in 1988.
Bertram loved travel, cooking, cross country skiing, lengthy bike rides with friends and building. He developed self taught expertise in many areas including survival camping in winter thru all 46 of the Adirondack Mountain's , and in 1991 solo sailing across the Atlantic from Hudson River to Azores, Canary Islands, Venezuela, Jamaica, Cuba, Inter Coastal Waterway then home.
Later in life, he spent time clearing local nature trails, hiking the Appalachian Trail, woodwork repairs for neighbors, electric boat building, building wood canoes and fiberglass sail boats, as well as traveling to Panama and Costa Rica.
Graveside services will be planned in spring 2026.
