Bennie Canty Jr.

Troy- Bennie Canty, Jr., affectionately known as "Junior" to many and "Unc" to generations of family and friends, passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 81.

Born on September 6, 1944, in Greeleyville, South Carolina, Bennie was the son of the late Bennie Canty, Sr. and Annie Mae Green-Canty. He was raised with the values that would guide him throughout his life: hard work, dedication to family, loyalty, and an appreciation for life's simple joys.

Bennie proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he began a distinguished career with Bendix Corporation, later Allied Corporation and Honeywell, in Green Island, New York, in 1967. He dedicated more than thirty years of service before retiring. Never one to sit still, Bennie continued working with First Columbia in Troy, New York, where he remained employed until the time of his passing.

To know Bennie was to know laughter, music, and good times. A lover of soul music, dancing, laughter, and good company, he had a gift for bringing people together. Quick-witted and naturally funny, Bennie was always ready with a joke, a clever remark, or a story that would leave everyone laughing. His big, infectious laugh could fill a room and was often the soundtrack to family gatherings and celebrations. Family and friends often joked that the party did not truly begin until Bennie arrived. An avid sports fan, he faithfully cheered for the New York Yankees, New York Knicks, and New York Giants, celebrating their victories and enduring their losses with the same passion he brought to everything he loved.

Bennie also enjoyed fishing and treasured his trips back home to South Carolina, where he could reconnect with family and friends and return to the roots that always held a special place in his heart.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Craig Canty, John Canty, and Tracey Canty; his longtime companion, Julia McAdoo; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Bennie was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy M. Keels, Mary L. Canty, Thelma Rodgers, Ruby M. Footman, Anna M. Canty, and Betty L. Pompey.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, New York. Funeral services will immediately follow from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Interment with military honors will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.

Though he will be deeply missed, Bennie's love of family, laughter, music, and his enduring spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
